Career Planning Resources

Ohio Means Jobs Career Exploration Activities
OhioMeansJobs offers Ohio students a comprehensive platform to explore careers, develop skills, and plan for their future. Through personalized tools, students can assess their interests, discover career clusters, and access job search resources, including part-time positions, internships, and apprenticeships. The site also provides guidance on building resumes, preparing for interviews, and finding scholarships or financial aid. By creating an Ohio ID (OHID) account, students can unlock tailored resources to help them make informed decisions about their education and career pathways.

Career Clusters
Career Clusters are groups of related occupations and industries that help students connect their interests and skills to future career paths. They provide a roadmap for exploring options, planning coursework, and understanding how different jobs relate to one another. Ohio recognizes multiple clusters ranging from health science and business to agriculture, technology, and skilled trades. By using Career Clusters as a guide, students can make informed choices about classes, training, and experiences that prepare them for success after high school.

Penta Career Center
Otsego High School students have the opportunity to attend Penta Career Center (our partner career-technical school), where they can gain hands-on experience in a variety of career fields while still earning their high school diploma. Opportunities start as early as tenth grade!

Penta programs offer students the chance to explore their interests, build practical skills, and earn valuable industry certifications or college credits that prepare them for life after graduation.

Students typically begin exploring career tech options during their freshmen or sophomore year and may apply for programs to start in their sophomore or junior year. Penta also offers Senior-Only lab opportunities as well!

Programs are designed to support a wide range of career pathways, from healthcare and technology to skilled trades, business, and the arts. More information about specific programs, application timelines, and enrollment procedures can be found on Penta’s website or by connecting with the Ms. Metzger!
